Philly DSA is a local chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, the largest socialist organization in the US. We are a group of dues paying members who organize together for progressive change in Philadelphia to weaken the hold large corporations have on our government and build power for working class Americans.
As democratic socialists, we believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically — to meet public needs, not to make profits for an elite few.
To achieve this goal, we believe that many structures of our government and economy must be radically transformed through greater economic and social democracy so that ordinary Americans can have a say in how are lives are structured in the work-place, our schools, and neighborhoods.
In Philadelphia, our current priorities are achieving fair healthcare for all residents through an improved and expanded Medicare-for-All program, creating greater networks of solidarity and collaboration with organized labor and working class constituencies, and building our internal capacity to carry forward the resurgence of socialist politics within the U.S.
DSA's National Priorities are detailed in our National Priorities Resolution.
We believe that our vision for a more just society begins with raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour, fully funding our public schools, and creating independent police review boards.
